"Until Mohammed, the Arab tribes were divided and spent most of their time fighting one another."

The west is very good at setting up straw men perhaps a straw leader in a smaller removed Islamic country could be set up to get the domino falling and get them at each other.

"This war will continue until the traditional crippled Arab culture is shattered. It won't end until they embrace reform or have it forced on them."

They won't reform or change by us and the only meaningful change must come from within their own ranks.

"We're facing a 14th century culture engaged in a 14th century war against us. The problem is that they are armed with 20th century weapons, which may eventually include nuclear weapons."

The U.N and various liberals would say you don't have one shred of evidence to the point of detonation and then would blame somebody else for not gathering sufficient proof.

"We can't make them proud because we can't give them anything to be proud of; they need accomplishments of their own for pride, and their culture prevents that."

Their leaders don't know where the wealth came from and is several generations comfortably removed from the time oil started flowing. They are basically welfare states with lots of money. Gentleman don't get their hands dirty and how would the prince have time between sleeping, eating and harem duties to find out how a proper economy is supposed to work.

The prince has a comfortable lazy life, the clerics keep the faithful in order and get paid a stipend, the leaders pay off sinister elements with the full support and direction of the clerics. The most amazing thing is the vile leaders think they are not only accepted and respected by the world even now but sanctioned by God.

There is little question that the Arabs are lagging behind in a fast-approaching industrialized world.

The rub is they are also fighting a war for self-determination and to rid themselves of colonialism's pain. Isra'El is the last of it and America is in the way.

That is the way I see it.

It is not that they are not capable of forming a more democratic society, it is that they have much on their plate and we (American Government) are not in their corner.
