My guess is that they honor them with more restrictions than before and raise the requirements for future redemptions. Otherwise they lose what's left of their passenger base. And they do have some spare empty seats. Being near DFW, I've had little experience with UAL. Just one flight from Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur around the edge of a typhoon with the 747's wings flapping like a bird's. But what I remember most about that flight was how filthy the plane was. Like they hadn't cleaned the carpet since 1988.

Damn this hits too close to home... My father is in danger of losing 1/3 of his pension because of UAL going bankrupt. Add this to the ass kicking he has already received from the stock market and we are talking some serious pain. My mother is in even worse shape financially. Her retirement money has gone to hell along with the stock market. My step brother, though young, lost all of his savings playing with margin and Cisco. That is not to mention all the friends and friends of friends that I have heard horror stories from. Their parents or themselves or both having their savings ravaged by the market. For every dollar that I have made during the bust people in my family have lost 10. There is no winning. Not directed toward you, ild, just venting...
