I went so far as to visit the set locations in LA.

I grew up in San Bernardino in the 50's. We would drive down to visit my aunt and uncle who lived in Compton and later in Long Beach. The scenes in the film of those low hills with oil drilling equipment are oh-so-reminiscent of the long drives to 'Aunt May's house' back when there were no freeways.
