At least you should allow some of them to explain why they have their arms full of bags and can't seem to find the receipt. They could be just Christmas shoppers. I think I can explain why the Montreal shady ladies know instantly you are anglais. City fr. males wear velour, coloured checked or velvet tight fitting suits, and pointy toed brogues with long laces. Their shirts are generally frilled lace cuff and they usually have a lace or bright coloured mauve or yellow hanky. Men generally us a cigarette holder but not the women. The grip is palm upwards. They carry black silver tip canes with pistol grip handles. Their hair is generally long and curly and styled with a puffed up look. They tend to walk slowly arm in arm with their boyfriends, and with a wide set toe-out prancing step. Occasionally they will be seen taking a pinch of snuff. The women are usually quite good looking but solid built. If you get in one's way they just say "hey geback dere english" and straight arm you or throw you over their head. Country fr. wear socks over their heavy wool pants, checked shirts, a toque or heavy peaked hunter's cap and smoke a long stem pipe. If they smoke cigarettes they will tap it twice on the pack holding the far end before popping it their mouth, palm towards their face. They always light the cigarette by cupping their hand and hunkering around the flame as if in a strong wind, and will light their buddies' cigarette from the same match. The cigarette grip is palm downwards between the thumb and middle finger. After lighting they they blow a smoke ring upwards with arms folded. You will notice that they wave the match twice to put it out. This is habit from forest dwelling as they no doubt are mindful of dying in the forest fire they may start. They often effect a sash belt of colourful cloth, tied at the side, with a long tail. They wear a heavy rubber soled leather lace up boot, usually unlaced. They do not use handkerchiefs but the back of their hand to blow their nose. Often they effect a five o'clock shadow even in the morning but rarely wear beards. If they look at you it is with a baleful agressive stare so any further glance generally leads to a fight. In their hand is often a bottle of cheap wine, generally half drunk. EC<:-}
