No, he wasn't a "team player" back in those days. But it was the only way to achieve a laudable goal

He has always seemed 'apolitical' to me; he simply enjoys the thrill of exercising international power in a, in the good, useful sense, Machiavellian way. He exhibits a deep understanding of how the levers of power operate.
