To A Juvenile Delinquent

We’re your jailers
The guards that hold you in
You’re a menace to society
That’s the most you’ve always been.

You stole his purse
Assaulted a man in rage
You suffer for your actions now
In this bare, disgusting cage.

The dad you robbed helps foot the bill
Of your extended stay
The poor sod will never know
He’s paid thrice for your moral decay.

We punish to reform criminals
So they will change and grow
And serve society better
Put on a decent show.

So we place you in living hell
Where you’ll spend your tortured days
And we hope you take a lesson home
That crime never really pays.

We’ll starve you of comforts
All warmth and loving care
We’ll rob you of your dignity
Hoping you’ll learn to share

We’ll take away the things you love
And you can rot in this hell hole
Till the glint of hatred in your eyes
Is replaced by gentleness of your soul.

And we don’t forget your past misdeeds
It gets harsher with successive crime
We only want what’s best for you
So you can keep on doing time.

But we wonder why you never learn
To love and then to give
To be kind and compassionate as we all are
To forget and forgive ?

every morning
i clasp the warm hand of
Happiness

but

Loneliness wins out.

He pushes
Happiness
out the front door,
sprints back in and
deadlocks

imprisoning me
from
within.
