They have figured out that the genetic code depends not only on sequencing, but on architecture. The relationships among chromosomes change the meaning of the information encoded. Couple that with the Uncertainty Principle, and it may be that we affect physical reality by observing it, creating a new context in which events transpire. For example, it has been suggested that we force quantum decisions through observation. Suppose we play a role in actualizing the universe, by being here to observe it, and therefore by altering the meaning of its elements and forcing it to choose certain paths over others. Suppose the world is a dialogue between ourselves and God, interacting through the objects and events we experience, and that, by our actions, we either create the conditions whereby the world becomes more permeated by the Presence of God, or a little darker and unholy. This is the idea behind the Lurianic Kabbalah, which is more or less the theoretical basis of Hasidism. When God created the Universe, He put various of His attributes in vessels, to be used when needed. However, some of the vessels broke, and sparks of the Divine fell into matter and became trapped. The rationale for the Talmudic Law, therefore, is to release, through ritual, these sparks, in order to restore the Presence of God (known as the Shekinah, a feminine form) to its full glory. When enough of a restoration has been accomplished, the Messiah will come.
