After near universal regard by the non-Muslim countries after 9/11, the rest of the world now thinks very little of the Bush vision of America. And no wonder.

"World regard" is cheap. If you consider not-so-thinly disguised pleasure at the US "getting its own" as "regard." Possibly if we did nothing but cry in our soup after 9/11 we might have preserved some of that "regard", for a little while. Most Americans to the contrary, were expecting retribution. The rest of the planet didn't even want us to go after bin Laden in Afghanistan. If preserving "regard" means sacrificing our right of self-defense, then they can keep their regards, IMHO.
