tuxedo moon, wow, haven't heard that name in a while! good rant, i wish we weren't living in a time when you felt a compelling need to offer such sobering thoughts, but alas we do.

in the "old country" my people have now been completely sold down the river by two sets of politicians, one (nominally) communist, one post-independance and (nominally) democratic. the similarities between what is now going on here and what i experienced there are genuinely frightening, at least to me.

this isn't a republican/democrat thing, when i look at both gore and bush (esp bush cabinet, yikes) i see politicos who fit perfectly the incredibly corrupt politics of back home. Enron is nothing more than balkan "business" practises honed to perfection.

al gore especially scares me in ways i find hard to even verbalize. i've seen his kind too many times and been on the wrong end of his form of "compassion" one too many times, given free reign it is nothing more than well-intentioned tyranny.

in the past, it seems when america gets in trouble a third party emerges to provide a legitimate alternative, if only for just long enough to help right the ship.

imo america desperately needs a highly visible and vocal third party today.

ps i think at one point you posted you'd get some puts if qqq touched 28...if you made that play, nicely done!
