The truth? Islamism is the No. 1 threat to Western civilization today. It is the No. 1 threat to Christians around the world. It is the No. 1 threat to Jews. It is the No. 1 threat to American security. Hmm... is this a veiled pseudonym for militant Islam, or an indictment against the entire religion?? I submit that neither Islam, Christianity, or any other religion is the problem. The problem lies in certain practioners of these religions espousing violence and holy war (crusade, Jihad.. what have you) in the name of god... Christianity was warped in a similar militant manner by the Crusaders, generally as a means of looting the middle east and wreaking some revenge on Muslim expansionism during the previous several hundred years. But Islam derives many, if not most, of its religious values from Judaism and Christianity. So to say that Islam inherently is violent (as Pat Robertson asserts) is tantamount to claiming that Judaism and Christianity is inherently violent as well... The violence lies with the religious leaders who have hijacked these spriritual tomes... And just assuming that Islam was inherently violent during the time of Muhammed... I say what of it?? Why not seize this GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to foster a non-violent interpretation of Islam?? Why seek to create a religious "us versus them" conflict between two of the largest faiths?? Why not condemn, censor, and if necessary, eliminate, the extremists of BOTH religions?? Neutralize anyone advocating violent "conversion" or destruction of the other, while at the same time lifting and extolling the virtues of those who continue to wage a battle of love over hate through our spiritual lives... That's what needs to happen... To empower the moderates of all religions with sufficient courage and hope that they can deal with their own militant factions. Hawk
