mucho maas on another thread told me Investors Intelligence had bears at a 4-year low a few weeks ago.

I don't know how these sentiment indicators are calculated. Just common sense says bearish sentiment cannot be at a 4-year low, this indicator doesn't seem right. I then looked at the P/C ratio (then) and it contradicted investors intelligence with a bullish reading. Another huge problem is that there is 1/3-1/2 less volume than peak, meaning many investors have left the mkt, its not like the overall pool of investors is fixed by any means.

Has this Investors Intelligence figure worked during mkt turns before... did it reflect extreme bullishness in 2000 for example or is it just another broken clock anybody know? Whats amazing to me is that anyone would read that bearish sentiment is at a 4-year low and post it on some SI thread without even questioning its relevance.
