AJ,

You said, "But when it came to the next question, a code of ethics to observe for the salvation of one's soul -- (this means: what must one do in actual practice in order to save one's soul?) -- Jesus (or perhaps His interpreters) gave men a code of altruism, that is, a code which told them that in order to save one's soul, one must love or help or live for others."

Can you show me where Jesus (or the bible) ever states that salvation comes this way, "to save one's soul, one must love or help or live for others."? I have studied for a long time, and never came across this...

Thanks in advance for substantiating your post.

God Bless,
IGIT

Hey aj, I don't agree ....

You say, "in order to save one's soul, one must love or help or live for others:--

I think you'll find that the only "requirement" that leads to salvation is --- "that whosoever believeth in Him".

That is, believes that He is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, died for each of us, and rose from the dead. The "love or help or live for others" you mention, is something that happens because we love Him.

A GREAT GIFT waiting only to be accepted by anyone that wants -- and no shopping, no crowds, no cost, no wrapping, no nothing but accepting.

GREAT any time of the year, but particularly timely this holiday season.

We may differ in our beliefs, but I still wish for you, a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season.

average Joe, man can always find a way to contradict God's Scriptures. Else everybody would be of one mind and one Holy Church. The Church of God, is spiritual in nature and contained within man's soul (or spirit)by the grace of God.

God looked down the corridors of history and chose those who would be his followers. He said elsewhere that the road to eternal life was very narrow and few be there that find it.

First of all, referring to your post, Christ's work on the cross is what enabled man to be saved. His holiness, NOT OURS, is what sanctifies and justifies before God.

We believe because God chose us, our faith is not anything that we develop. God gives us faith through his grace.

We do not work to become holy enough to be saved, (as taught by Catholicism) it is Christ's sinless life and atonement that declares us in a state of perfection, in Heaven.

If you try to be holy, then that is called self righteousness. I'm just the weak branch, depending on the root of God to provide me the strength and desire to receive it.

May peace and understanding be your guide to a Christian life.

Santiago
