T, former Fed governor Robert Heller wrote an op-ed piece WSJ mid- Oct 1989 and proposed that the Fed should buy stock index futures to support the stock market in times of stress. mike

I think the folks who don't think "they" intervene in the stock market are deluded(whether it is the treasury or the Fed or whatever government agency or indrectly by orchestrating collusion of the players).

Does it really matter anyway? -- Bernanke -- said they would buy almost anything -- the cautionary statement after was baloney -- just something he could say to act like he was 'simply' thinking out loud -- which he wasn't -- he was making a carefully crafted policy statement.
