Quite simple, really. agree with this formulation save for David Reiff's commentary that democracy is not something that is installed Simply using your terms. Plus, I think we both know what we're discussing so there's no need for footnotes. Message 18312453 the first priority for the US will be to install a regime it can have a large amount of control over. I would hope so, at least in the critical early stages. Otherwise, chaos could result. There will be a lot of revenge in the air after the US wins. The inevitable democratization effort will require time and effort. The Iraqi population is an educated one but has no experience in democracy. Economic issues, particularly the marketing of Iraqi huge supply of oil, will be paramount since Iraq's re-building will be expensive. Democracy without bread doesn't work. I suspect that Bush will make a proposal whereby some of the US costs of the war will be borne by Iraq through oil sales, not a bad idea but not one which will be popular.
