IF that is true, it is probably because there are not many people around here who have lived in the Middle East, and who can hence call your half-truths and downright false comments for what they are. I do respect those in Turkey who tolerate miniskirts and bikinis Here we go. "Those in Turkey" do not "tolerate" miniskirts and bikinis because you do not "tolerate" something that is normal. Turks "tolerate" topless tourists, because that is not usual for them. But they do not "tolerate" miniskirts and bikinis. great respect for those that fought for this basic human right Huh? Are you under the impression that Turkish women "fought" for the right to wear miniskirts and bikinis? Did this happen in some alternate universe? Do you understand now why I find your posts strange? Putting aside your fantasy of Turkish women revolting for the right to wear bikinis (really!), what happened is that shortly after the establishment of the Turkish Republic about 80 years ago, the modern dress code was imposed on men and women alike by law. Shorter skirts became usual in time, but there never was at any time a "fight for that basic human right". I sensed a violent push backwards from the "tchador gangs" on the last elections Then you "sensed" without looking first at election results. Otherwise, you would have been able to "sense" that the real hardline Islamists (SP) got no more than 2.5% of total votes in Turkey. You would also be able to "sense" perhaps that the runner-up to AKP, the "Muslim Democrats", was center-left. Third party was center-right. Fourth party was center-right/nationalist. None of these three have anything to do with religion. There goes your "sense" of politics, I guess. I trust judgement based on hard data much better, anyway. nor, again, that I find her beauty anywhere above average I have not seen a picture, nor do I care about her beauty or lack therof. My objection was to your strange remark on how Miss Turkey being elected f***ed the Islamists in Turkey because they would not be able to nail the chador back on their girls heads or something.
