Some say broadband demand just ain't there; hence service providers don't want to spend the extra dough right now to roll out 3G services. But does it really cost service providers THAT MUCH to roll out 3G in U.S.?

Perhaps 3G itself isn't so expensive, but rather service providers are simply so debt saturated that they can't justify more debt right now without explosive demand (which frankly doesn't really exist for any Internet product/service; especially during economic doldrums).

VZ and PCS probably have to haggle with FCC due to the enormous amounts already paid for spectrum. Whole thing sounds like a chapter out of an Ayn Rand novel.

<Why don;t these guys start rolling out data and providing it on a low cost high volume basis. very soon they will loose this market to the WiFi guys ONLY because they offer it, tantalize us, and then refuse to deliver.
If so, it will be one of the largest market blunders of the 21st century. Alot like IBM and a little known product called "PC". >

Rich, it drives me nuts. Globalstar used the same useless marketing idea and maintained their premium priced, low volume 'captive' market right into bankruptcy. The cyberphone service providers are doing much the same.

Globalstar was a pretty big 21st century blunder.

PS: There you are! I love this modern technology - sitting here with my WiFi notebook, cutting and pasting and sending to cyberspace.
