the Patriot Act has got to go... excesses of government goons from ATF, FBI, Customs, CIA, etc., may ... create such a stink around it that an outraged citizenry demands its repeal.

Gov't insiders have gotten smarter in ways to combat outraged citizenry.

If you read "VOTESCAM" and other investigative reports into the last 20 years of fake national polling and vote-counting fraud, it isn't hard to believe the majority of the citizenry is outraged, but mute.

Criminal secrecy in voting fraud and official sanctioned secrecy in media management in the name of nat'l security keeps a lid on that outrage. Several reports from Oct 26th events nationally showed anomalies, but always in the direction of lower estimates of turnout, as much as 1000%. Even esteemed so-called leftist NPR radio reported 10,000 turnout in DC when it was 100,000. They apologized later, after the damage was done. Gee, no one could seem to figure out how that happened. All networks underreported the numbers, and the mistakes coincidentally were always in the direction of minimizing the demonstrations. It's now down to a science -- use leftist outlets, lie during the events, then apologize.

The 60's-type media-savvy protesters that were around in the first Gulf War are still there but have been pretty much neutralized by these new techniques

Re: Muzzling Citizen Outrage -- there are many such examples of dirty tricks neutralizing the "outrage" in the media like the Oct 26th event -- here's another important one that threatened to get national coverage, on June 10th:

bighula.com

This was held by the major researchers on the 9/11 unanswered questions, plus dozens of the families of the victims of 9/11 and their lawyers. Had this got national airplay it could have pushed forward the 9/11 Congressional investigation.

The above announcement was on June 4th, which didn't leave much time to neutralize the event, if, in fact that was done. Of a long list of things that would distract the media (explosions, announcements, etc.) what happened was a rather odd but definitely explosive news conference 9 timezones away, by John Ashcroft, which turned out to be an old story, and less than newsworthy. So why did Ashcroft decide to hold a press conference from Moscow, rather than the next week when he would have been back in Washington? Why was that announcement made late at night, 9pm, Moscow time?

The targeted event was scheduled to start at 2pm. "Coincidentally", 9pm Moscow time is noon Washington time, and here's what happened, removing the www.unansweredquestions.org Nat'l Press Club event and the families of the 9/11 victims off the front page:

cnn.com

Notice the original wording written by the media-managers for the DOJ was "unfolding terrorist plot", guaranteed to grab 100% of the media attention worldwide away from the National Press Club event. Actually, of course, it was not only old news, it wasn't relevent, since Padilla had no plans, materials or capabilities, and his attorney now claims the charges were for a conversation only. This was later retracted by the administration as "bungling", the usual cover for dirty tricks.

It is claimed by some knowledgeable critics that the CIA and intelligence agencies budgets are 70% used for disinformation and management of the media. No such official breakout is published, but it wouldn't be surprising. The solution, of course, is full disclosure of all public projects, and full oversight of all clandestine projects by people above reproach, i.e. NOT old guard Kissinger types.
