"Its relationship with every other atom in the world is different"

Hydrogen is a diatomic molecule..... Each atom consists of one proton and one electron. When one H atom combines with another H atom to form an H2 molecule, how do you envision, if the molecule were resplit, one of those atoms behaving differently with a third atom when it recombines to form a molecule?
