WI's budget is a damn mess at best. Like all good government they grew well during the hey days and like all good government they are incapable of shrinking. I am sure tax hikes are just around the corner. Heard a Democrat the other day say if we didn't raise tax's we would be forced to quit early child care, pre school, school lunch's and there would be drastic cuts in law enforcement and other "needed" programs. Typical. Scare the shit out of everyone and pick the highest profile programs to cut so people will then beg for a tax increase. Less you get the idea that I think the Demohacks are the sole problem here our former governor Thompson is Health and Human services in DC now. He grew our government and taxes with the best of them.

Economy here is not good at all and I'm sure that a tax increase won't help that.

Heard that same happened in '80s..the states were forced to increase taxes as the government seemed to claim they reduced taxes (was passed on to the states). So in reality, what happened?

Last year itself (1st half) I read in Barrons (think it was Abelson's column) that a group of eminent economists (fair number of them collectively) faxed a letter to the folks in charge that the urgent need was there to resuscitate the economy. I remember that the article went on to say that history has shown us that when such a thing happens (ie a reminder comes from economists) that it is already a tad late. And trust things to move fast through all the legislation procedures. So by the time any such stimulus package is passed, it would be already late.
