As a Gyrene, you were better prepared than most to take personal responsibility for your self-defense. I admire your resolve and your success. I read about a retired naval officer in Colorado who was threatened by a perp who had terrorized the neighborhood by assaulting or threatening virtually everyone in it. I may have the facts askew, but as I recall he chased the guy down and killed him in his car. The neighborhood was grateful and relieved, but the officer was convicted of murder and went to jail. My favorite story is an elderly woman in a town where I once lived who befriended a troubled young fellow. He returned one night behind a mask and beat and robbed her. When he was caught and the old woman found out who he was she declared that if she'd known what he was going to do she'd have shot him long ago. I've heard it said that it's better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. Maybe that's true. I think it depends on where you live. If the twelve were a bunch of anti-gun demolibs, I might prefer the smaller number.
