Wildstar...I agree that the bowls are about money. I also agree that VT is probably getting el shafto this year....but...last year VT went to the Gator Bowl over SU...we finished higher in the conference and "deserved" the Gator Bowl ...but $ was the deciding factor..VT's fans travel better.

What team kept the Big East from becoming the CUSA in the 90's when Miami was on probation?

Syracuse University did as much as any team in the BE(actually more) while Miami suffered through it's down period. In the 90's SU won 2 BE championships outright (97&98)...and shared the championship twice (91&96). VT won the BE championship in 99 and shared the championship twice.. in 95&96.

Granted this year SU probably would have finished at the bottom of CUSA, but one lousy year should not rewrite the BE record book concerning the 90's. This year was painful enough.<gg>

What other conference has the AD's vote about where teams go bowling? This is bush league.

Those of us over 40 remember well the year (1973) when the Big 10 ADs voted Ohio State to go to the Rose Bowl after they and Michigan tied for the conference championship.

Back in those days, only one Big 10 team was allowed to go to a bowl game, and that game was the Rose Bowl. Until 1973, the Big 10 rule was that a team could not go to the Rose Bowl in consecutive seasons, but that was changed prior to the 1973 season. Ohio State went to the 1972 Rose Bowl.

To set the stage, Ohio State and Michigan were both undefeated going into the final game of the season, which was and still is OSU vs. Michigan. The game ended up a 10-10 tie after Michigan's kicker, Mike Lanter, missed 44 and 48 yd. FG attempts in the last 5 minutes of the game. As OSU and Michigan tied for the championship and there wasn't a tiebreaker other than head-to-head, the Big 10 ADs voted the next day on who would represent the conference in the Rose Bowl. They selected OSU, sending Bo Schembechler into a frenzy.

The next season, Michigan was again undefeated going into the Ohio State game. Ohio State had one loss. Ohio State won the game 14-12, after poor Mike Lanter again missed a makeable FG attempt in the last minute. OSU again went to the Rose Bowl and Michigan again spent the holidays at home. In 1973-74, Michigan went 20-1-1 and did not play in a bowl game. The Big 10 changed its rules in 1976, and Michigan played Oklahoma in the January 1, 1977 Orange Bowl.
