It's so desperate now. Everything must revolve around

getting W re-elected. Think Ms. Market likes the prospect
of 25 more months of Bush & Co.? Yeah right.

Scientists can be every bit as dogmatic as theologians.

Actually all karen theories are bogus and have any ever not been refuted.

Re: "how about the mitochondrial dna from the Eve from whom we all descend."

>>> Actually, what is being argued is that we modern humans descended from a small founding population. Wheither there was only one 'Eve', or all the other mitochondrial DNA lines from that original founding population died out along the way - leaving us just with mDNA from that one female - is unknown.

>>> Both are considered possible.

"all scientific theories are just theories"

Not all, some are considered scientific law but are still subject to change if someone shows they cannot account for all they are supposed to account for.... Don't delude yourself into thinking that anything called a theory hasn't been proven.....most of the most famous ones have been proven many times, but science is conservative and will reserve final judgement for years until there appears to be no possibility of the theory being disproved. To my knowledge there is no finite point when a theory becomes a law.... More and more of Einsteins calculations and predictions are being verified than disproved.....Those that are being refuted now are extremely esoteric and really don't affect normal scientific experiment or calculation. They are not being thrown out as being invalid but rather refined to account for new findings (usually in astrophysics where new data is being gathered from deep space probes and the Hubble telescope....others more versed in this may wish to comment.

RE: evidence of Noah's Ark??? Would love to see where you heard of such..... Before you consider the existence of the ark, maybe you can say where all of the water went that flooded the earth...There is a scientific law know as the Law of Conservation of Matter which says matter can neither be created nor destroyed....so if the flood happened the water must be someplace...

The Eve data....very exciting isn't it, but no one is suggesting that there was only one Eve....those stories about the DNA don't mean to suggest that we all descended from a single female of special creation, but rather from a certain general location in Africa whose residents migrated to Asia and then to Europe etc etc..... But for you bible folk, it does appear that Eden was in Africa....

Re: oil from dinosaurs....that makes a cute grade school story, but unfortunately most came from vegetation and no doubt included the dinosaurs and other animals as well... As for depleted oil fields refilling....I haven't heard anywhere that new oil is being produced but it is likely that old abandoned wells are being somewhat "recharged" by existing oil, given up on due to difficult recovery, is seeping back into the areas pumped earlier. I can't give you an accurate number but lots of oil is left behind as unrecoverable. But oil engineers are constantly working on methods to extract additional oil,.....the most common methods at the moment usually involve steam injection. Someone in this group recently posted a new method that recovered several million barrels from an old well. But no oilman will suggest that new oil is being formed...

Sorry can't comment about the sphinx, I'm really not sure what you're trying to say...

Karen,

I agree with JFS here. People tend to say "theory", when they mean to say "hypothesis"...That's o.k., I know scientists who do the same thing (its just that they know what they mean - casual conversation vs. science).
