NC has become something of a tech center and then theres all that banking down there Do the big firms have backup generators of some sort to avoid these outages? 6 days... wow >> Yep, Charlotte, biggest financial city outside NY...and the research triangle area, a tad bit north, is a mammoth of Tech... Yep, all the major places such as hospitals and big business all have backup generators.....and Duke power, along with thousands of crews that came from out of state came in, and they got the major stuff back up and running pretty quick considering the damage was as bad as it was....damage was actually worse then when Hurricane Hugo a category storm 4 hurricane when it hit us, came thru years ago...I remember trying to navigate thru charlotte after Hugo and it was just unbelievable....we were all just pryiang to survive, as it literally felt like the house was going to rip apart any minute and then the next day navigating about, it was like a war zone...simple unbelievable...can't even decribe in words.....this wasnt as severe....during hugo, like I said it was like a war zone...whole neighborhoods simply gone...piles of rubble....this storm didnt have the heavy winds, so we didnt get that kind of damage, but the heavy ice cause a zillion trees to topple over and duke power lost almost every customer....the big boys got restored pretty quickly after clean up and damage assessement, but folks like me, living in residential area's, were last on the list of priorities, so yep....6 looong cooold days...and like I said, others are still out....they say it wont be until beginning of next week before they get 90% restored...I'm just hoping mine stays on, now thats it's back, and I dont lose it again....
