because the sad fact is that most consumers are ignorant and won't understand that they are buying a Linux PC that is incompatible with most other sotware out there.

Are you saying that you think consumers are too stupid to surf the web on linux? I don't know, I've never used linux but I assume navigator or mosaic or some browser is pre-installed.

Word processing and excel on a cheap box aren't going to bridge the digital divide imo. If some grandmother hasn't needed excel until now I doubt this machine will reel her in. Otoh the web is fairly compelling wouldn't you think? And why would you want a modem, when it comes from the cable company as a rental. This walmart computer seems like the right package to me.

What I think is somewhat brain dead, is the fact that they are only selling these on the web! LOL I didn't know that.
