I agree on just how interesting it will be watch the Dems strategy on Supreme Court nominees. Because of their base, they will have to make the good fight.

As for filibuster, do you know whether votes on court nominees can be filibustered? If not, the dems only option might be to filibuster something else, bringing senate business to a halt. That would make for difficult politics.

I frankly expect them to make a very big bit over abortion politics with the Supreme Court nominees.

As for the lower level appointments, those, in many ways, are, as you know, more critical. But, save for the most outrageous, as opposed to the simply outrageous, my guess is they will take a pass.

Their game is likely to try to pick fights to force the Bush folk and congressional Republicans to give in to their right wing social issues base. And we'll get to see if Pelosi is better than Gephardt at that in the House.

Also, on this level, Daschle has not been bad. Terrible spokesperson but not bad as a legislative strategist.
