" A cell replicates on it's own. The virus replicates by attaching to the cell DNA and when the cell DNA replicates so does the virus"

I don't disagree with that, but my repetitious point has been that a cell cannot replicate itself either without a nourishing environment to supply nutrients and other life supporting conditions. Conservation of mass, remember?? A virus get those things from a host cell which it invades and essentially instructs those cells to produce the parts the virus needs to multiply...in the process the host is eventually destroyed. So what I'm saying is yeah they're different but yet they're not different in the context of this whole lengthy discussion.
