Xybernaut Receives $1.1 Million Atigo Hardware Order; Strong Demand Continues for Dual Use Flat Panel/Thin-Client Computer

December 11, 2002 09:09:00 AM ET

FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 2002--Xybernaut(R) Corporation XYBR today announced an order for approximately $1.1 million in Atigo(TM) hardware.

This represents an addition to the previously announced order and deployment of 200 Atigo units with the same company. The combined initial orders from this single customer constitute approximately $1.5 million and represent one of the largest hardware orders the Company has received.

"As we expected, Atigo is finding strong interest in numerous industry segments. Atigo offers a unique alternative to handheld devices, laptop/desktop computers and Tablet PC devices. Customers cite Atigo's benefits as a platform that offers seamless computing between mobile employees and centrally-located server computers," said Edward G. Newman, chairman, president and CEO of Xybernaut. "This customer indicates that the total number of units to be purchased could ultimately number in the thousands as deployments continue. This purchase represents strong momentum for Xybernaut and we are successfully working to extend and replicate this success in retail and other industry sectors," Newman added.

Though additional information regarding the customer and the deployment can be expected in the near future, this order is in the retail industry in the broad category of field force automation. Specific applications and employee functions include customer relationship management, sales support, quality assurance and remote data access and management.

The Atigo line of wearable computers (Atigo and Atigo L) is covered under Xybernaut intellectual property as mobile/wearable computers that are designed for dual-use as a wireless flat panel display (FPD) and/or a stand-alone Web-enabled "thin-client" computing device.

As Mr. Newman noted in a previous announcement related to Atigo products, this and other customers are taking advantage of Atigo customization features. These customization features include design elements; branding features, such as use of the customer's corporate logo and corporate colors; as well as build-to-order (BTO) features such as custom configurations and unique application support.

Revenue associated with Xybernaut hardware purchases is primarily recognized in the quarter during which the products are shipped to the customers. Xybernaut expects to record this revenue in the fourth quarter of 2002 or the first quarter of 2003; however, the exact timing of this and other shipments will impact expected revenue recognition in both of these quarters.

The Atigo product family is available directly from Xybernaut and through Team Xybernaut(TM) -- the Company's community of more than 100 value added resellers (VARs) and systems integrators. Pricing for Atigo hardware starts at $1,795 depending on the configuration and accessory options chosen by the customer.

Specific pricing details and price quotes can be obtained directly from Xybernaut by calling toll-free 1-888-992-3777.
