Dear Hawkmoon. I, alone, assume responsibility for calling Muhammed a kid's serial rapist. To my knowledge, no one else did around here. And by the same token I think he didn't do justice to his followers, even today, as this ethnological practice is still going on in many Arab states. Now I do not have first hand proof for all Arab countries, but for one I do: moderate Morocco. There, some middle or even old age men do marry girls of age twelve, and on the wedding night, they often cannot get their investment hm... yielding. Because the kid is yet unformed, or sometimes because they are not the machos they used to be. In any case, they used to end up around two o'clock in the morning in my daddy's clinic, with a couple of tribes behind, all quite upset and shouting that there is no blood on the bedsheet, that the marriage has to be called off, with all the consequences, financial, honor, etc. But that was the nice case, because the explanation was easy to understand for the angry man : "just wait it out for a couple or years or so with your other ladies." The real problem was when there was no blood on the sheet because the lady was no girl no more. It did happen a few times a year too. Then the cheated family was ready for some real shoot out, still at the same two oclock in the morning. And Dr Epstein would examine the bride (I was around, dressed in white, most often biting my cheeks), check the state of an often totaly absent hymen, and always conclude to her advantage with a set of variable diagnosis, depending on the circumstances, the past story, the tribe they came from etc : "The hymen was particulary elastic, thus it didn't have to bleed." Or "Didn't she ride donkeys or horses when she was young ?" Or to the husband, (checked also) "It could very well be that nature has endowed you with a perfect tool for the young ones." He may have saved many lives this way. But I still maintain that a twelve years old girl is not asked for consent, thus, technically and physically, it is a rape. A legal one possibly, but still a rape. Now if a man does marry two very young girls, then I think he deserved to be called a serial rapist. Thus it will be "in different times and different places" as you say when the Mufti Mullash and co will forbid marriage under a certain age... for girls at least. But all that was thirty years ago. May be they rewrote the Book ? And the good news it that in Morocco at least, the don't excise them girls.
