We get bags of apples at Costo, Galas and Fujis. Not sure where they come from, think maybe Chile. Apples like cooler weather, which is why they are grown in the US from New York to Virginia, but no further south. Some fruits like weather that never gets hot, like cherries. Some fruits like weather that never gets cold, like oranges.

The taste of apples depends so much on the place where they are grown. The soil. The rain. The prevailing winds.

So does the taste of wild things -- wild crawfish, wild salmon, wildflower honey.

The cows that give the milk that is made into Parmigiano Reggiano forage between the rivers Enza and Parma - which is also where they make prosciutto di parma.

If you can't taste the difference, it's silly to spend the extra money.

If you can, and you can afford the difference, it's silly not to.
