Probably true in the very VERY early part of their history. If you look at the Ottoman Empire, where the Padishah was also the head of the Muslim world (I forget the term), they never forced Islam on the populations they conquered but just taxed them. This is why eastern Europe is still Christian, although this empire stretched until Vienna at one point.

The crusades, which annihilated Muslims and forced conversion of most.

So today we may have an American crusade against the Jihad converting Muslims to democracy, capitalism and religious tolerance? Sounds silly but in historical context 1000 years out it might be about right if successful. A taste of how much of a "brutal response" may be in the offing is the nuclear threat against potential enemies issued publicly today. Mike
