sure there are cases like that... I'm not saying NO real money was lost in the bear mind you... but to claim that the trillions lost in the naz from peak down represent a dollar for dollar decline in consumer spending is quite a stretch... also it is a myth that during the bubble individuals raised their standard of living to the point where now, without those market gains, they need to refi their homes with a cash out loan to deal with day to day expenses, anybody got any kind of statistics to back that up?

Looking at it another way... take the last few years of the bubble, stock market valuations vs. earned income. I have no idea where to find this information, maybe some folks here do. Cap the decline of the stock market actual losses to say, 1/2 earned income during the period. You'd get a much different picture imo.
