You might be reading a bit much into that. A child's life can certainly end up being destructive in the sense that we in this country may create nore than anyone else, but we also use more than anyone else, we waste more than anyone else. If you buy into the idea that life on this planet is increasingly interdependent, then I think it follows that a certain amount of what we use and waste means that others cannot use it, especially non-renewable resources. The gap between haves and have-nots is not getting smaller. It's getting bigger world-wide. We do not give more than we ever have. We give less. So to a certain extent, the life we live here is destructive to others elsewhere. I don't feel guilty because I don't think about it much. But when I do, it's hard to escape that perspective. I don't dance with Dick Cheney on this.
