Otherwise, you're in the position of asserting that we should ALLOW Americans to die, in massive numbers, before acting. That is unconscionable.

I strongly agree with most of your post. I don't find in unconscionable that there are people who believe that we should risk a large loss of life to avoid the risk of war. There is a risk/benefit assessment that needs to be made. What I do find unconscionable are the people who condem the idea of war while denying or avoiding making this risk/reward assessment.

It takes no particular talent to find a good argument to avoid war. War is risk. It is a rare talent, these days, to find people who can argue against war and own up to the risk of inaction. It may calm our anxieties to shift the location of the enemy from 'out there' to 'in here' but it does nothing to lessen the threat.

Paul

And KILLING non-Americans, "in massive numbers", is OK? That is "conscionable"?

Karen's post referred to Bush saying he had nothing against using nukes. If you believe nuking civilians in Iraq and risking nuclear fallout in neighbouring countries is going to make Americans safe, you need to examine your premises. And if you think such an act is "conscionable", I don't know what you need to do. Perhaps suffer a little yourself to understand what suffering is and why it is A Bad Thing even for non-Americans.

Iraq is no threat to us. AlQaeda is, and that terror has not been eliminated. Bush's dissipating our resources by attempting to start a war is a greater threat to the safety of Americans than Saddam.
