what's the average temperature for you
at this time of year?

As you probably know, coastal California is a patchwork of micro climates. If you have a Sunset Western Garden Book, I live in a Zone 16 climate - quite pleasant. As for the average temperature, in December it's usually not the average that's important. Typically December produces some swings with lows fluctuating from mid to low 20s to mid 30s and highs from low 40s to low 60s. This year we've yet to get to freezing for a low and the highs have slowly declined from 80s in early November, to 70s in late November, to finally upper 60s in December. Since the lows are in the upper 30s, I typically (like right now) have a number of windows and doors open in the middle of the day to warm the house. This allows the various cats run in and out. About 3:00PM, I'll close the house, and it will remain comfortable until time to retire. Not a bad life. OTOH, if I don't get some more cold, I won't be getting any cherries next year. Instead, it's daffodils in December.

One storm blew thru last night; another one is hitting us right now. I think it is better than last night, but I was at work, and, per Lurq's microclimates, even tho the hospital is only 40 miles away, we get twice as much as them.

Another one is supposed to come thru tomorrow night, so maybe our minidrought will end. It has been so dry, that a friend of mine was watching CDF helicopters fight a fire in early Dec. about 2 miles from the coast. Sure is nice to really hear the creek. Shhhh...listen
