It's really not all that "classy" to apologize after the firestorm breaks out and your job may depend on it. It's actually kind of Clinton-like to do that.

Whether or not he's a racist, Lott does have a habit of throwing little racist bones to the David Duke type white supremacists in his state. He probably thinks it's good politics, but maybe he is a racist. How would i know?

I think he should step down, he's hurting his party and he's probably too stupid for the job, based on this incident.
