i'm not saying zimbabwe's government is good, but its no worse than rwanda.

Is rwanda's government causing a man-made famine by expropriating the land of the chief food producers, and allowing humanitarian aid to go only to government supporters? I don't know much about rwanda's current government, but it's hard to do worse than Mugabe.

I don't want to get into a big debate on the Cold War. I just wanted to point out that your contention that Israel won its wars because it had superior US arms was not true. Israeli superiority in arms dates back about ten years or so, to the end of the Soviet Union (though I'm sure you can argue about relative quality of arms). Israel remains at a great disadvantage in men, and must bring its economy to a halt whenever it fully mobilizes. For most of the Arab-Israeli wars, the advantages were on the Arab side, on paper. But fortunately for the Israelis, the Arab states have never been very good at actually waging war. Here's an interesting paper that discusses the reasons:
