what he did was straight desperate and dumb (assuming that thats the whole story,,which i really doubt,,,. i'm guessing the surgery was pretty expensive and that he didnt have money to cover it. imo only..

It is easy to knock every criminal. Glad he was nice to you and hopefully many others. That does not change the fact he was a thief. The fact he was using a toy gun only proves he was an idiot.
If you are ever going to point a gun you must be prepared to use it-- toys are of no value. If memory serves, someone said recently he had more than one real gun. Why would that be a question? It is easier for criminals to get a gun than a law abiding citzen. He used the toy to instill fear, commit a crime, and had hopes it would get him a lesser sentence if caught. Not hurt anyone?? What the hell?? How about the fear instilled in the victim? How about the higher insurance costs (passed on to consumers)? How about if the victim had a heat attack? Hoe about the possible mental/emotional problems instilled in the victim? There is no way anyone can justify a crime. He got what was deserved-- saved taxpayers money for a change and the victim should be made a hero!
