This whole discussion started when a few months ago said that I thought that part of AMAT shares drop in price was due to a 500k shares that were sold by an insider.

Someone replied that 500k shares are just a drop in the bucket. That they are absorbed in a few minutes. And as evidence the person said that AMAT's daily volume is 30 m shares.

And my point has been that the real AMAT float available for daily trading is maybe only 100k shares churned a thousand times every day. And if that was increased by even a small amount, it would significantly impact the price, until it found its way to a long term holder.

Possibly, one factor hurting stock prices is the increase in float caused by option exercise. Many options issued in '99 or '00 expired worthless, but options are continually expanding the share count.

Maybe that is why AD is having such an easy time betting against the longs.
