OT, Filing Your Info.

I save all my messages that I want to in html format, and if there are any links in them that I think may disappear I do same for them. Other stuff in whatever ...pdf's, Word docs, etc.

When you file you don't necessarily want to file according to your immediate impulse. Think about how you would search for something, if you were not the one that did the original filing. After you think about it, come up with something, and file.

Use a minimum number of folders, but enough to separate info according to content or something useful to you. Too many folders makes it annoying, when coming back. Too many clicks.

The single most useful thing I've come upon is to start each individual document file name, with the date, in international format. The next thing I usually put is the initials or last name of the author. For example I just filed a PM from jw ...

021212, jwcb, ...(Description).....

Yes those Europeans have a few things that make more sense than what we use - date designation and paper size are but too. Certain aspects of the metric system another.

We usually remember about when we filed something. This keeps that part in order. We usually remember who the author was. It is next, right there.

Finally, continually work on it and maintain it.

FWIW.
