Doughnuts are effective only in obesity. We don't have much of that around here, either, come to think of it.

There ya go, see? A skinny cop is an unloved cop.

It is really quite fascinating when you contrast the attitude toward diet and obesity between the Europeans and the Americans. One of the most noticeable trends in the US population is the growing proportion of young obese Americans.

The European approach, and of course I am generalizing quite a bit, is to reduce the caloric intake but to supplement the meal with a good glass of wine. Americans like to super size everything they eat (french fries, soft drinks, etc.) and then look for a quick fix afterwards whether it's the latest craze in dieting (mostly protein, little carbs or mostly carbs and little protein) or some invasive form of surgery (liposuction, gastric by-pass operation, etc.). The "biggie" size mentality comes with our distinct culture: big government, big military, big ego and big federal deficit. <g>

Just having a little fun as an off topic discussion. <smile>
