Talking Bush doll occasionally misspeaks

Associated Press

Published Dec. 13, 2002 DOLL14

LOS ANGELES -- A talking doll of President Bush is flying off the shelves this holiday season.

Like the real president, the new doll is talking tough on terrorism -- and it occasionally misspeaks too.

Most of the doll's 17 sound clips are straightforward quotes -- but there are some humorous-but-true soundbites like, ``We're working hard to put food on your family.''

The doll retails at about $30, and the first shipment of 12,000 sold out this week.

That's bad news for holiday shoppers, because the company says the next shipment won't arrive until after Christmas.

Fledgling California company TalkingPresidents.com isn't planning to stop with Bush. A talking Ronald Reagan is in the works for the spring, followed by Richard Nixons, Bill Clintons, John F. Kennedys and George H.W. Bushes.
