Lived in Richmond, VA, for a while... On Monument Avenue. Statues everywhere, to Civil War leaders.

I noticed one day - don't know why I hadn't noticed before - that all the statues looked pretty much the same. All carved smoothly out of the same stone, all guys in uniforms astride chargers... often with sabre drawn... charging off in one direction or the other.

Couple of months later, I noticed the one statue that seemed different. Sitting in an out-of-the-way part of the city, carved very roughly out of black stone, is Mr. Bojangles.

No horse, no sabre of course... he's dancing.

Rather liked that statue.
