David, what were the reasons given for Clinton passing up the opportunity to capture Bin Laden? Hindsight is 20/20, but even Clinton wanted Bin Laden's head on a platter.

When Clinton was asked about it personally, he said words to the effect of "We had nothing on him; we had no basis for prosecuting him."

This was, of course, untrue, as Mansoor points out. Mansoor is no Clinton hater by the way -- he contributed hundreds of thousands to Clinton's campaigns.

I cannot imagine why the Clinton White House did not want to do this. You would think it would have been politically beneficial -- unless, of course, they got Bin Laden then were unable to get a conviction.

It will remain one of the most bizarre failures of the Clinton administration. I'm damned sure Clinton will never come clean as to why he passed on Bin Laden.
