I would not exactly call that biting the dust. He was honest about what he thought he could or could not do, and he chose not to do it. End of story.

WASHINGTON -- Former Secretary of State Henry
Kissinger stepped down Friday as chairman of a panel
investigating the Sept. 11 attacks, citing controversy
over potential conflicts of interest with his private-sector
clients.

"It is clear that, although specific potential conflicts
can be resolved in this manner, the controversy would
quickly move to the consulting firm I have built and
own," Kissinger wrote in a letter to President Bush,
who appointed him. "I have, therefore, concluded that I
cannot accept the responsibility you proposed."

Since we ELECT people to look into these things, it's always been kinda stupid to let them farm out their duties, especially when they expect the "commissioners" to work for free. Let the Bush administration make decisions on how the executive branch performs-and where to reform it. That's the kind of thing the actually-LIVING America elected him, overwhelmingly, to do.
