It might encourage a burglar to fire on you more quickly

A young double-murderer once told me he was getting frustrated in his job, which the state provided him at $25/hr in an auto-body shop, and wanted to do another armed robbery. He had just done 5 years, instead of 20-life, because he was only 17 when he robbed and killed an elderly couple in their apartment.

I told him that was nuts, he's got a good job, and anyway, liquor store owners are armed these days, I had just read where a robber was shot in the teeth, and the owner had again shot the robber again as he lay on the floor. "You can't join the military either -- just stick with the regular job, you'll make more money, and live longer".

He said, "No problem, I'll just shoot the guy on the way into the store".

That's the kind of logic that goes on in prison training-grounds.

Postscript - he didn't, but is now in for life for trying.
