That is fascinating. I have recently been looking into the whole issue of Kaifeng as my friend's maternal grandparents came from there or near there and the grandfather had the name Zhao which though also a common Chinese name is one of the 7 Jewish family names from Kaifeng. A few other indications seems to suggest some Jewish ancestors but who knows. There is also Manchuria via Beijing and Fujian in the mix :)

There are some inaccuracies in the story as a lot is known about the Jews in Kaifeng up to the 19th century as an organized community though they looked mainly Chinese by that point. Even today there are a few hundred who remember that they have Jewish ancestry though most have forgotten.
