I don't have the link, but I read at the time that Bush Sr. was still in his pajamas when he met with and appointed C. Thomas. I think that showed a bit of disrespect. Interpret it how you will.

That pretty-well sums it up, and also explains why younger, better-educated blacks are rejecting the liberal "new mass'a" in the same way their ancestors rejected the ORIGINAL slave holders...

Let's see if I could put it into better perspective... the Democrats thrive on misery ....

If by "better" you mean more civil than it's better. Other than that, not a whole lot different.

I might as well just respond with...and Republicans thrive on greed. Hoping that the ignorant conservative base can't see through the faked claims of States Rights, et al. They know that they can't quite return to the good ol' Jim Crow days, but they can manipulate the conservative base into believing that bigotry is a thing of the past. It's a gullible group they have in the GOP.

A priceless quote from Mississippi....

"I do know that in Mississippi there are still some racially segregated places," said Cheryl Conn, 42, a schoolteacher. "But here there's no problem. We're one big happy family."

washingtonpost.com

Year 2002. As long as they know their place, we're just one big happy family.

Same article....

Two weeks ago, a dozen white-robed members of the Ku Klux Klan marched in support of the [Confederate battle] flag, a somewhat more obscure symbol of the Confederacy than the traditional Stars and Bars standard.
