Maxim Comments On Press Release Issued by Qualcomm
12/13/2002 8:32:00 PM

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec 13, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., (MXIM) released the following information today regarding a press release issued by Qualcomm on December 12, 2002.

Chuck Rigg, Maxim's General Counsel, commented on Qualcomm's press release: "Yesterday, Qualcomm issued a press release claiming that, while Maxim is not competing with their baseband products, 'certain U.S. and foreign patents' have been infringed by Maxim. Qualcomm refused Maxim's request to identify the patents at issue and failed to provide Maxim with a copy of the lawsuit before issuing their press release. Although Qualcomm has apparently disclosed information about their claims to the press in an attempt to generate publicity, they have yet to reveal any information about their claims or their lawsuit to Maxim."

Mr. Rigg continued: "Maxim has introduced several wireless transceivers for use in CDMA applications. As these products outperform those of Qualcomm, Maxim has been gaining market share, apparently to Qualcomm's detriment."

Mr. Rigg concluded: "Maxim has introduced a technically superior wireless handset solution that is an alternative to Qualcomm's products. Maxim does not believe it is infringing any patents. When Qualcomm decides to provide Maxim with a copy of the lawsuit, Maxim will respond appropriately."

Maxim Integrated Products is a leading international supplier of quality analog and mixed-signal products for applications that require real world signal processing.

Speaking of correct spelling, did you notice that the recent QCOM slide listing operators who have installed various CDMA systems lists LWIN's offering as Crickett. I saw the same slide used by Irwin and by Keitel later on and it still had not been corrected. Maybe Qualcomm people spelll(??) everythingg withh a double consonantt endingg? (gg). LL.
