The threat of direct US intervention could, in their eyes, still give Mr Khatami a useful role.


This will be interesting. We are obviously planning to go into Iraq in January. When we finish that, if the Iranian Mullahs have seized total power, we certainly have enough reason to push them over if we want to. How far will we go with this "Slum Clearance?" TWT.

I just read that and was going to post it after I checked to see if it was already up.

I always thought a violent revolution was the only solution in Iran -- can't imagine the Ayatollahs giving up power voluntarily.

Can't help but wonder whether the fact that we keep restarting the clock on Iraq is giving the Ayatollahs the signal that we aren't going to do diddly, so they're free to crack down.
