saw a review on Techtv recently... he (Chris P.) said he used to own Dell laptops, but that he won't be buying one again. He said his next laptop would be an IBM Thinkpad.

Those guys are in the know in Computers and in the future i plan to buy a 'Thinkpad' also. (FWIW)

nspolar, you can't go wrong by buying Sony. Dell (or others) may be cheaper. Beware that some 16" laptop screens have 1600x1200 default resolution (I've seen those on Toshibas). This resolution on a 16" screen makes things tiny. And with LCDs you should always use the default resolution.

ns..my experience with Sony is excellent. I know some high end laptop users like the HP Omnibook...also you should look at the "commercial/business" laptop lines of the major suppliers...even Compaq has such a line....built sturdier I understand...if you have ever priced a screen replacement (we have a broken 15", I can buy a new laptop for the price of the screen) due to an "accident", you will err toward ruggedness, especially if you travel.

OT/Laptops.....I have used both the Compaq and HP Laptop computer. I would never buy a Compaq again and very much enjoy my HP that I have now.

Hi ns,

I have a Sony Vaio SRX87 which is the ultra-portable unit I bought for my trip. You probably don't want one quite this small, but I love it.

Regards,
